Surprising Facts About Food is the latest book authored by BEAT Personal Training physicians Dr. Paul Baker, Dr. Patrick Baker and Dr. Ryan Berlin. The book is filled with great information about food that most people don’t know about. Learn what foods contain the nutrients your body needs to survive and how your body positively reacts when you give it high nutrient foods. Good eating habits are not just about counting calories.

If the foods you eat every day are comprised of super-high nutrients, then your body obtains all of the nutrition it needs and automatically regulates your appetite. High nutrient food does not mean just fruits and vegetables. Throughout the book you’ll discover high nutrient foods include certain fatty foods that you may have thought were bad for you. If you eat foods high in calories but low in nutrients, your body will be craving more food and you’ll be hungry. On the other hand, if you eat foods high in nutrients, your body will adjust your appetite and eliminate cravings because it is receiving the nutrients it needs.

The doctors review all of the low-nutrient foods you need to avoid and foods you may have been deceived into falsely believing are “healthy”. They also provide you with countless options for healthy foods that are full of nutrients and we reveal foods you thought were unhealthy that actually help you!

The food you give your body is the starting point for a life of health, wellness and happiness!

As a new year approaches, we continue to sail in uncertain economic waters. Growth for most companies is sporadic at best. A business that is lean and maximizes the productivity of its employees continues to effectively weather this economic storm. Some businesses are even able to discover new oceans of opportunity and prosperity as a result of their prudent navigation.

Doing more with your current workforce has a dramatic and positive effect on the bottom-line operating results. As owners and managers looking to maximize the efficiency and productivity of your employees, one obvious but commonly overlooked opportunity is that of your employee’s health and wellness.

According to research conducted by Duke University, the health problem of obesity costs employers $73.1 billion per year!

Using survey data from the 2006 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey and the 2008 U.S. National Health and Wellness Survey, the Duke University researchers calculated the extent to which obesity-related health problems impacted absenteeism, work productivity and medical costs.

A very interesting statistic from the research deals with “presenteeism,” or the lost productivity incurred when employees try to work despite health problems. Presenteeism costs employers $12.1 billion per year, nearly twice as much as their medical costs.

The above referenced research also reveals that severely obese individuals accounted for 61 percent of all obese employee costs, though they represent only 37 percent of the overall obese population. For those individuals who are roughly around 100 pounds overweight, the costs for employers worked out to $16,900 per capita for women and $15,500 for men.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the yearly medical costs of obesity are estimated at $147 billion, growing by more than 80% over a 5-year period according to recent studies. The greater the obesity, the higher the medical costs and now with the Duke University research, the trend extends into the workplace as well. It’s an epidemic that has found its way into our factories, offices and stores. It has grown to the point where it cannot be ignored.

As important as education and training are to your employees in order to develop knowledge, skills and abilities, it’s of equal, if not greater, importance to focus on your employees’ health. Encouraging and helping employees reach and maintain a healthy weight will increase their productivity, lower medical costs for employers and have significant impact on profits.

BEAT Personal Training with locations in the Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio metro areas understands the importance of maintaining a healthy workforce for companies and how it can significantly impact a company’s performance and profitability. BEAT offers special Corporate Weight Loss Programs and Performance Enhancement Training Programs customized to the needs of each individual employee and the overall goals of the employer. The Programs at BEAT are developed and supervised by physicians while being administered by degreed and certified personal trainers who are passionate about their jobs. The BEAT Programs will produce results like no other you will find. It’s a win for your employees and a win for your company’s survival and success.

Make a material and positive impact on your bottom-line operating results by contacting BEAT Personal Training at (866) 621-2328 or learn more by visiting the Corporate Programs Page of the BEAT website: www.beatpersonaltraining.com/corporate-programs/.

There are always oceans of opportunity in any market condition. You just need to know where to sail your ship. BEAT will help navigate you towards those oceans of opportunity.

Here’s a priceless gift that will change the life of the person that receives it.

Do you know someone that is trying desperately to lose weight but can’t find the right diet plan or weight lose program? Does a family member want to advance their career? Do you have a friend that needs to change their outlook about themselves and their life? The BEAT Gift Card could be a gift that literally lasts a lifetime and shows how much you care.

BEAT Personal Training is unique for many reasons. The programs are developed and supervised by physicians and a licensed nutritionist. The trainers all have college degrees and training certifications (a combination that you rarely find). The BEAT labs perform a variety of tests for clients that provide essential information to properly create a weight loss or training program that addresses the unique needs of the client. Furthermore, the BEAT training environment is small, intimate and discreet. But most of all, it’s the culture and attitude of the BEAT team that is probably the most distinguishable feature. They sincerely and genuinely care about their clients’ success and overall health. They build strong relationships and provide the necessary support and motivation to get their clients over ‘hurdles’ and do not allow them to fail.

Understandably, it’s common for people to place their health and wellness low on the list of priorities. We all lead very busy lives. When a new client joins BEAT, they will initially attempt to postpone or reschedule appointments because they place their health and wellness below other priorities. However, as they progress in the program, they start to feel better physically, mentally and emotionally. They begin to understand that their health and wellness provides them with the resources to excel in all areas of their life, especially their career. They inevitably make a transformation where they place their health and wellness first. It’s not selfish to take care of yourself. You simply cannot take care of other things unless and until you do.

We all accept the value placed on advanced education and career training. These things tone and expand our minds and give us the knowledge, skills and abilities to become marketable for employment and to build careers. We strive to enhance our earning potential in the pursuit of happiness and fulfilling lives. However, an individual will never be able to realize their true potential without overall physical and mental health and wellness. With health and wellness, an individual is fully prepared both physically and mentally to maximize their career performance as well as their personal happiness and satisfaction. A BEAT program teaches and applies these principles effectively and like no other program can duplicate.

Frank Prevost has faced major obstacles throughout his life. He grew up in the economic hardships of the Great Depression, fought bravely for our country with the famed Special Forces unit “Merrill’s Marauders” in World War II and endured the passing of his beloved wife. Today, Frank is fighting the effects of aging on his health and not surprisingly, he’s winning this battle too.

At 92, Frank’s body was rapidly deteriorating. His movements were slow and labored. He was losing his mobility and relied on the assistance of a walker for balance and stability. His posture was hunched over and he was unable to lift his head making it impossible to look someone squarely in the eyes when talking. As each day passed, he was becoming more dependent on the caregivers at the Hyde Park Health Center where he resides. The physical declines were also taking their toll on the morale of this once proud and distinguished Army officer. His quality of life seemed to be slipping away.

Troubled by his decline, Frank’s daughter and son-in-law came up with an idea. Both are retired and live very active and healthy lifestyles thanks to their involvement with BEAT Personal Training in Cincinnati. Based on their success, they decided to ask their BEAT trainer, Jason Harbin if he could help their father. Jason encouraged them to bring him in for a consultation and when they did, everyone agreed BEAT could provide Frank with the personalized program he needed to regain his health.

The BEAT team formulated a customized training and dietary program to address Frank’s specific health needs and Frank pledged his commitment and determination. At his first training session, Frank wrote a personal goal on the dry erase board at BEAT’s Red Bank Expressway Training Facility: “Throw away my walker by Christmas of this year”.

Six months later, Frank routinely and faithfully attends his weekly one- hour training session at BEAT’s Red Bank Expressway Facility and strictly follows the guidance and advice of the BEAT professionals. He now enjoys mobility, strength and balance. His posture has improved and he holds his head up high as he looks you in the eye to speak. He has regained independence and freedom to live life without relying so heavily on caregivers. With all this has come an improved attitude and outlook. Hope has been restored and he now has a new sense of purpose in his life.

Does anyone need a used walker this Christmas?
